Trevor Barry Readies for World Indoors

“My progress is coming along slowly but surely; I am looking forward to jumping higher in Istanbul,” said Trevor Barry, commenting on his preparation for the 2012 World Indoor Championship to be held in Istanbul, Turkey from March 9-12. Trevor, the 28 year old Bahamian high jumper and 2010 Commonwealth Games silver medalist is having a superb indoor season. Trevor Barry Wins Brno High Jump

Daegu bronze medallist Trevor Barry with 2.30 and European under-23 champion Esthera Petre at 1.93 were the two winners at the 17th edition of the Brno High Jump competition Tuesday evening at the Olympia Shopping Center, the first time in the history of the traditional fixture that the city sport hall was not used. A FEW years ago, assistant coach Andre Scott was beaming with excitement over the performance of national long jump record holder Bianca Stuart at Southern Illinois. Today, Scott is still in awe of Stuart's accomplishment as a graduate of SIU's Saluki women's track and field team. Athletes of the Week: Drexel Maycock and Brashe' Wood

As a new feature on MileSplit Bahamas, we will honor the top junior athletes each week by naming a male and female athlete of the week award. This week two throwers really stood out for us: Drexel Maycock and Brashe' Wood. Both had double wins and met the CARIFTA A Standard for the second time this season in both the shot and disc.

Pinder Breaks National 200m Record... Again (20.50)

Friday at the New Mexico College Classic, Demetrius Pinder blew away the competition and erased his own newly-minted Bahamian national record by blazing a 20.50 indoors. The time was over a second faster than his closest competitor in the meet and was a new facility record at The Albuquerque Convention Center.
