Athletes of the Week: Drexel Maycock and Brashe' Wood

As a new feature on MileSplit Bahamas, we will honor the top junior athletes each week by naming a male and female athlete of the week award. This award will go to athletes who were star performers in the week prior. An athlete may only win the award once per season.

This week two throwers really stood out for us: Drexel Maycock and Breshae Wood. Both had double wins and met the CARIFTA A Standard for the second time this season in both the shot and disc.

Drexel Maycock

This past weekend Maycock swept the throws in the Under 17 division at the Star Performers Classic with wins of 15.23m (50-3.25) in the shot put and 46.75m (153-4) in the discus. Both marks met the A Standard for the CARIFTA Games. This followed his performances two weeks ago at the T-Bird Flyers Classic that had already qualified him for CARIFTA.

Drexel is a 16-year-old junior at CR Walker and competes for Throwers, Inc.

Brashe' Wood

Making it a big week for the throwers, Brashe' Wood accomplished the same feet as Drexel by sweeping the Under 17 division for both the discus and the shot put. The 15-year-old tossed the discus 35.70m (117-1) and put the shot 11.53m (37-10), both were new personal bests and CARIFTA qualifiers.  Wood previously made both standards at T-Bird Flyers Classic as well.

Brashe' represents Club Monica.
