National Boys Performer Of The Week Presented By Firefly

American Fork (UT) legend Daniel Simmons won big at the Arcadia Invitational the weekend before last, clocking 8:34.14 to take down an absolutely loaded 3200m field. 

Simmons exciting win moved him up to No. 5 on the all-time high school list, becoming just the sixth athlete to ever run under 8:35. Simmons also anchored the Cavemen 4x1600m relay as he broke the tape in 16:47, the second-fastest time in high school history.

Simmons was crowned National Boy's Performer of the Week presented by Firefly after collecting 65.75% of the votes, taking down Benjamin Shue of Bergen Catholic (NJ) who picked up 20.44% of votes.

Mason Dossett, Ridge Point (TX): The nation's top hurdler did it again, this time running a wind-legal 13.35, the top time in the nation by one-fifth of a second. Dossett has been tough to take down this season, posting a 12-2 record in the event since early February, with his his pair of losses coming in the prelim. Dossett sits in a tie for 9th in high school history, even with Trey Cunningham, a world silver-medalist.

Jackson Cantwell, Nixa (MO): Cantwell established himself as the nation's top shot-putter after notching a nation-leading mark of 72-3.75. Cantwell became the first to throw past the 70-0 mark this season, and the senior is just the 30th high schooler in history to do so. Cantwell won his 32nd straight shot put competition, dating back to May of 2017. Cantwell improved on his prior PB by over five feet.

Jayden Keys, Katy Tompkins (TX): The man of many events was back at it again, this time in the 110mH, 300mH and long jump at his UIL District meet over the weekend. Keys won both the 300mH and long jump, posting marks of 24-5.75 and 36.31, with the latter being a brand new PB, lowering his previous by nearly one-third of a second. Keys also finished runner-up in the 110mH, running 13.57 for the No. 3 time in the country this season.

Gates Hinton, Fuquay-Varina (NC): Hinton became the top  thrower in the nation so far this season, tossing the discus 206-9.5, overtaking Benjamin Shue for the No. 1 spot. Hinton bested the field by over 60 feet, eclipsing the 200-0 mark for the first time in his season. Hinton is 5-0 in the discus so far this year.

Scottie Vines, DeBeque (CO): Another week, another win for the top high jumper in the country. This time, Vines picked up the win at the Phil Wertman Invitational in Grand Junction, CO, winning by well over a foot. Vines tied his PB and national lead of 7-4.25, tied for the No. 8 mark in high school history. Vines has not lost a high jump competition since March 18, 2022, an incredible streak of 24 consecutive wins.
