 With the inaugural season in the books after the 2012-13 campaign, Outdoor Track & Field Head Coach Adam Ward signed 12 student-athletes for the sophomore season, according to a statement from the second year coach Friday afternoon.

 

After booking 10 competitors for the upcoming cross country season, dual coach Ward focuses on track and field and the need to deepen his roster by adding six women’s and six men’s track and field student-athletes.

“We needed depth and a lot more talent in every event. We tried to attract as many talented, qualified student-athletes as possible,” Ward said. “Starting a new program as we did this past year without any scholarship student-athletes is a challenge, but we accomplished some great things. With these new recruits we will continue our work toward team success and championships."

Kendell Williams was announced   the 2012-13 Gatorade National Girls HS Track & Field Athlete of the Year in a ceremony held at Kell HS Thursday morning. Kendell has the fastest time in the 100 Hurdles in the nation clocking a 13.23 at the GHSA Girls State Championships, 2nd longest LJ at 20-10 and 27th in the HJ with a pr of 6-0. Williams, a native of Marietta, is coming off a performance last week where she scored 5,481 points to win the Heptathlon at the USA Junior Track & Field Championships in Des Moines, Iowa assuring her a position on Team USA for the Pan Am Junior Championships Aug. 23-25 in Medellin, Columbia.

Proposed Legislation Calls for 'Student Rights Over FHSAA Power' Press Release Apr 08, 2013

The Access for Student Athletes Coalition, a new initiative launched by Floridians for Government Accountability, Inc., today called on the Florida High School Athletic Association (FHSAA) to support Senate Bill 1164, sponsored by Senator Kelli Stargel (R-Lakeland), and House Bill 1279, sponsored by Representative Larry Metz (R-Yalaha). The proposals address the many concerns regarding the overreach and arbitrary scope of authority displayed by FHSAA representatives when conducting investigations on student eligibility to participate in local-area public school athletic programs. The proposals seek to put student rights above the FHSAA’s power and establish true due process for student athletes during their limited window of eligibility.

Runners from area high schools and colleges have been invited to compete in the second annual GoldenSprint Challenge Invitational, Feb. 23, at the legendary Utah Olympic Oval. In this track and field event, sprinters will compete in the 60 meters, 200 meters, 400 meters sprints, and the 60 meters hurdles race.
