Floridians Named to Bahamas CARIFTA Team

Current Bolles School junior, Ashton Butler, and former American Heritage star Teray Smith have been again named to the team to represent The Bahamas in the upcoming CARIFTA Games. Both also made the team this year to represent their native country. This year will be especially meaningful as the Games will be hosted in the brand new Thomas A. Robinson National Stadium in Nassau--a source of great Bahamian pride.

The CARIFTA Games is an absolutely huge deal for the track-loving countries of the Carribbean. It is the youth championship for the region--with an Under 20 and Under 17 division--and it comes with great hype, live television coverage, and a lot of national pride on the line. Track and field in many of the Caribbean these nations is one of the top two sports.

Butler will represent Team Bahamas in the triple jump and Teray will be competing in the 200 meters.  The two competed in the CARIFTA Trials in the country this past weekend. No results are yet available; for whatever reason, results in the country can typically take up to a week to get published. Island time, I guess?

MileSplit will be on-site at the CARIFTA Games for full coverage from the opening ceremony on March 29 through the closing events on April 2. Your own Todd Grasley will be there on our coverage team, along with local Ritchie Goodman, and Dean Greenaway of our British Virgin Islands affiliate.

Congrats to Teray and Ashton!
