Plans underway for new sporting facility on Moore’s Island, Abaco Jul 16, 2012

MOORE’S ISLAND, Abaco – After years of producing some of the top athletes in the country, Moore’s Island is being ‘rewarded’ with a sporting facility - the first of its kind on the island. of the Ministry of Youth, Sports & Culture visited the island on Thursday, July 12 to view the proposed site for the facility, which is located just two minutes south of the airport.... High-profile athletes have made the Aileen Meagher International Track Classic one of the must-see summer events and this year’s version is no exception with the announcement that world-class sprinter Derrick Atkins will be attending. A native of the Bahamas, Atkins has a personal best of 9.91 in the 100 metres and should definitely provide some electricty for the meet, which is slated for Sunday, 6:30 p.m., at Huskies Stadium. Three Bahamian Track and Field Youth Ambassadors Depart for the U.S. Jun 20, 2012

For the first time, three local female junior track athletes and one female coach will represent The Bahamas in a 10 day Caribbean-focused youth exchange sponsored by the U.S. Embassy.  The youth track and field exchange will take place from June 18 – June 28, 2012 with the goal of instilling leadership skills in emerging female athletes who can share the benefits of athletic participation - including improved health, greater self-esteem, and greater academic success – with other girls.  (via Bahamas Weekly)
