Throwback Thursday: Brian DiCola Runs Tactical At Penn

The 2023 Penn Relays Carnival were held at the University of Pennsylvania at Franklin Field in Philadelphia.

Looking back to the one mile boys championship, we saw Hatboro Horsham (PA) senior Brian DiCola win with a swift time of 4:11.23.

DiCola, a Penn State recruit, took over the front pack at the halfway point.

In the end, the defending PIAA 1,600m champion was able to hold off a move made by Justin Pretre of Menlo School (CA), with 200m to go. Pretre finished second in 4:12.98 while Ryan Pajak was third in 4:15.08.

At the time, this was DiCola's season best, but with post-season competition, the senior would later go on to race a 4:04.14 over the mile distance, eventually landing at the U.S. No. 14 position to finish out the 2023 outdoor season.

The 2024 Penn Relays will be here before we know it, taking place from April 25 through April 27, and are set to have some fast performances.
