Family History in Mauldin Running for Macey Morgan

How would you rate the season so far?
I've been really happy with how my season has gone so far. I'm happy with my placements but wish I would have improved more on my PR.

How did you get involved in the sport?
My dad ran cross country the first 2 years they started it at Mauldin High School and told me I should give it a try. I had always played soccer until I started running in the 7th grade and have loved it ever since.

What do you hope to achieve this weekend? Please describe/explain.
I hope to make All State again and help my team place as high as possible. My teammates have all trained really hard this season and I am hopeful that we will finish strong at State.

What is your training like this week?
We have tapered back a lot this week. My coach is making sure we are all well rested and healthy so we can be prepared for the weekend.

What part of the race do you feel is your strongest and most
challenging?
The first mile is always the strongest because I go out fast and can usually stick with the front pack. The last 800 is always the most challenging because everyone is giving everything they've got to finish strong.

What do you hope to do after the regular season?
I hope to take a week off from running and catch up on sleep, Netflix, and some Oreos. Then I'll get back on the grind for the upcoming track season.

Did you run into any challenges this summer?
I love to sleep in so the 2 days a week that I trained at 5 a.m. were definitely a challenge. Heat and humidity are always a challenge too for working out in the summer.

What keeps you motivated?
My twin sister, Haley, always encourages me and pushes me to do my best. My parents are my biggest fans and support me in everything I do. They can always keep me motivated. My coaches and teammates are always positive and make practices fun even on hard workout days. Getting PR's always motivates me to train harder and do my best in races. I want to continue to get faster and compete in college.

Coach Kelly Sample comment: Macey is an incredibly dedicated athlete who I can always rely on. She knows what she wants, believes in herself, and goes for it. Her persistence, competitive nature, and ability to visualize success are just a few reasons she is so successful. Above all, she is a fun-loving person who is fun to be around!
