River Bluff Boys Race During Closed Period

River Bluff boys cross country team violated closed season South Carolina High School League rules by running a race to conclude a summer team camp during the closed week period of July 22-26, that may lead to sanctions by the League.

The Gators (5A) ran in a race on July 26 - the final day of the League's closed season - where teams are not permitted to practice or compete.

scrunners.com reached out River Bluff and the South Carolina High School League for comment.

"I cannot comment on any pending sanctions or appeals from/to the SCHSL, said River Bluff Coach Derek Gomez. "Please direct any questions to our Athletic Director, Coach Blair Hardin."

After receiving the statement from Gomez,
scrunners.com reached out to Hardin. He stated, "Since this was a high school league action please contact them for any information."

League representative Nessie Harris told
scrunners.com, "I couldn't share that with anyone other than River Bluff.  Sorry."

The Gators finished sixth as a team in the
state meet last season.
